RSS (Really Simple Syndication) is a way for web sites to publish just the headlines to their news articles, each with a link to the full story. This means you don't need to download full web pages to see if there are any new stories of interest, saving time and download costs - headlines are typically 5% of the size of a full web page. Headlines can then be immediately opened in your browser for the full story. RSS feeds are available from most news sites - look for the What are HeadLine Groups? HeadLine Groups are a new feature of HeadLine, which allows your news feeds to be synchronised to your HeadLine members area. Add an RSS feed in your members area, and it will automatically be added to the bookmarks on your phone at the next update. Feeds may be added, edited or deleted on either your phone or your members area and they will automatically be synchronised. In addition, HeadLine Groups provides an easy way to share your bookmarks between groups of people. Use of HeadLine groups is free to all registered users of HeadLine. To reduce data costs, HeadLine fully supports the HTTP 'If-Modified-Since:' header, so feeds are not re-downloaded if the feed hasn't changed, as well as compressed feed transmission, if supported by the feed server. |
